December!

Update: Sunday 15th November 2019:
Hello!
I shall wind up this year here on my blog with very best wishes to everyone for a safe and peaceful Christmas.

Am starting to slow down in a few things (such as getting around to everyone on their blogs) and that's a sure sign that a little break is needed.

A few pics first though:

On Thursday I joined the other monday art group ladies for an enjoyable end-of-year lunch:
I had a Bloody Mary (wow! head blowing ;D)! )
followed by baked eggs, pepperonata & persian fetta ... the pepperonata was a rich tasting sauce made with tomatoes, garlic, chillies and onion - perfect, spicy but not unbearably so.
Roasted local peaches and ice cream for dessert
(too busy talking to remember a photo of dessert though)

🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄

The  Epis that I included, further down, in this same post, have now died off and some are currently developing fruit at the junction of the spent bloom to the leaf (usually they're edible by Christmas-time).  Here's a photo of one of them to show you what I mean:

The fruit swells and becomes a pretty pink.  Its a refreshing little tidbit!

Our cherries continued to provide lovely eating over the past couple of weeks but, all good things must come to an end, and here I hold the final cherry of the season!  They were delicious :D)

Anyway, thanks for your blog-friendship throughout this year.
Good cheer and all the best.
See you in the New Year.
Sue xx

Hi there, I hope the past weeks have been good to you.

Thought I'd jazz up the background on my blog for December... spread a few baubles and glitter around... 'tis the Season!!

~ First up,  a completed painting of my current favourite flowers.
I'm pretty active on Instagram and have been lucky enough to catch up with a few blogger-friends there, so I'll always try to have something different here:

~ There's been lots of bushfires in various States here over the past couple of months and, a week or so back, here in East Gippsland some dry lightning strikes caused lots of random fires.

Currently, there's a huge 9,000+ hectare one burning just 6 km East of our town.  Because of the size, dryness of the bush etc, its likely to be around and causing spotting-on for many more days, weeks or months according to the authorities.

It's something we, like so many other communities, have learnt to live with.

We have so much admiration for the fire-fighters who attend these fires - several are in our street.  We hear them coming and going at any given time.  They're brave!  Their families who support them are wonderful too.

Life goes on but our hearts go out to the ones caught in the direct path of these fires  ❤︎❤︎

We're under the flight path of the helicopters who fill up their buckets from our river and then back to the fires... we salute those pilots also! ❤︎

~ Mum turned 95 this week and I must share with you this beautiful cake one of our Nieces, Skye, made for her.  She was thrilled to bits and was quite overwhelmed.  Mum is still an avid knitter and is currently setting her needles on fire getting a whole new layout knitted for a new babe due in the family early next year.  ('Toots' is one of those family names of endearment and the fact that Skye added that was an extra lovely touch):

Here's a sample of some of the fabulous knitting Mum has recently made:

She recently made over 2 dozen knitted Poppies for Remembrance Day as well!  She's amazing for 95!!!!

... thought I'd include some of my handmades for Mum's pressies.
They were fun to make and she loved them.  Took the wrapping paper off so carefully, saying she was going to keep that too.
It was a happy day 😊

~ These beautiful Epis burst into flower over the past few weeks.
My Sister grows them and keeps us all supplied with gorgeous varieties.  They're like an exotic touch to the garden:

~ Now to share my latest yummy obsession... sushi... but not of the raw fish kind. Me, in my ignorance, used to think that was all there was!  But, no!  There's all sorts of combinations and with the tasty ginger strips to eat between each mouthful.
On our weekly shopping day, I'm enjoying it each time Hubby suggests I may like to do some sushi-ing for lunch - oh yes! Added bonus, it ticks the gluten-free box too ;D):

~ A little sketchy card I finished last week.  Some Correas (Australian Native) in watercolour and old cardstock re-used:

~ A little glimpse into Hubby's greenhouse and the strawberries that are tantalising us.  A few weeks before we can eat these:

.... however, a little walk further down to his orchard and look what's there!
Cherries!  Oh joy!  We have regular visits and just stand under the netting, reach up and eat.
They are so yum.
The birds can't get them at them, Hubby let the nets down in time this year ;D)

~ Another painting I had finished a while back.  This time, an acrylic:

~ The nasturtiums along the side of the house are really partying!
I've let them ramble and roam and re-seed to their hearts content and they're taking full advantage:

Well, that's about it for now.  I shall do what I did last month and pop in to add another something or other to this post and, in the meantime, get around to visit everyone over the month.

Thanks for taking the time to read and perhaps comment.  Its always lovely having an e-chat ;D)

November catch-up

Hello!
Catching up again with a few pics which I'll add to throughout the month:

Update 18th November 2019...  "Roses" I've been fiddling with this one for ages and now it doesn't look anything like in this photo!  However, this is the way I like it.
Funny how things turn out sometimes.
Hope your November is nice - cheers!

Update: 14th November 2019... Took this for a reference photo as a guide to painting glass (I love how refractions distort plant stems in water).
Then I realised it made a pretty photo... the Dianthus continue to bloom their little hearts out and, oh, their perfume... divine!
Hope your week is going well!

Update: 7th November 2019...  Florals... lovely nasturtiums, some feeling their age but beautiful nonetheless!

The portulaca on the rockwall garden has been blooming its little heart out!  Such a simple, unassuming little plant ... it certainly takes advantage of its moment to shine.  A beautiful splosh of colour against the rocks:

Spring brings with it the ripening of loquats...a sweet and refreshing fruit.
The visiting Musk Parrots definitely agree :D):

I am painting now more than ever.  In fact, daily.  Its a huge part of my life and I love it.
Here's one I finished yesterday.  Flannel Flowers.  I also cut up some paper that I wipe leftover paint on (as you can see behind the easel) to do a bit of collage for the vase:
Flannel Flowers (native to Australia)

I was nearly going to add that these aren't anywhere near to being botanically correct... but... wait... of course they are ... in 'Susan-land'
(ahhh, with a brush in hand there is power to do whatever ;D))

A most stunning sunrise the other day... pinkly soft and gentle.  I stood on our verandah and ... well, just stood - in awe!

Thought I should mention it but I've turned Comment Moderation on.
Spammers are active, as I'm sure most of you are experiencing.
Someone trying to advertise something is one thing but when that spam turns to hateful racist comments, well ... not on my blog!  As my hubby said, they can crawl back under their rock!

some This n Thats and mixed feelings but mostly good!

Hello!

Well in our little part of the world, we woke to a frosty morning... here's a shot I rugged up and walked down to take from the back of our yard a few days ago.

I don't usually do this on my blog but I'm getting a bit deep in my thoughts following this photo...
It's always a tranquil view - no matter what the weather.  A nice spot to look out and contemplate things, important things, things like how darn lucky we are to be enjoying such peace.
I feel for those people who are battling far too early bushfires in two of our States - lots of them lit by vandals would you believe! Our dedicated firefighters and their supporters are brave beyond words.
The recent hurricane victims overseas - so much devastation - so much to do to rebuild. The trauma.
The uncaring and meanness of some of our politicians (small 'p') appals me.
I shall stop now and get back on to the brighter side of life but just had to let that out.
~ Thanks for listening Dear Blogfriends ~

Earlier in the week ... spotted in the supermarket... cold tootsies!:

but then I saw some pretties:

I remembered a lovely blogfriend,   Denise  of  'An English Girl Rambles' blog, did a recipe for strawberry bread (I've taken the liberty of including the link to that Denise ... thanks in advance). Well, strawberries are plentiful and cheap here atm so Hubby popped a few extra into the trolley this week.
Last night I felt we needed cake in our lives again - Hubby agreed - so I made one inspired by Denise:
We both loved seeing that ooze of strawberry peeking though

... and it was yum, nice and moist and hit the spot.
A bit crusty but that was because I was on the computer and forgot it until I smelt something cooking in the oven - oh the joys of this certain age lol ;D)

Now, I'm feeling really chipper, got to say.
Some may recall a recent post I did on my felting.

Well, after meeting with Joy from the local Art & Information Centre they initially took  4 of my felted pots (on commission).  One has sold already and I was asked to bring in another two  - woo hoo - as I said to one of our granddaughters... I'm doing a (grandma-version of a happy dance)!
there they are... sitting next to other local artists' work and I'm thrilled!

They also bought a selection of my cards and will be putting them out soon.  It's a bit quiet at the moment but once the tourist season starts it gets more active.
There they are, there's my babies - each one painted with happiness!

just one more look:

Thanks for popping in and, as always, its lovely to catch up with everyone.
Cheers now, and extra special good thoughts to my blogfriends in Queensland and New South Wales, Sue xx
oh yes, nearly forgot... I'm on Instagram now (thanks to our other granddaughter who taught me about hashtags etc xx).  Have already met up with blogfriends on it and would love to see you there too if we haven't already connected!

Shells and Memories

Hello!

Shells from the beach... I love to relocate just some of them to our backyard:

The two shells on the left I can remember collecting from Wonga Beach in Far North Queensland...
Memories... we were in our bus, pulled in to a caravan park intending to stay one night, ended up staying a month.
Fresh coconuts, porpoises coming up to us as we fished by moonlight, trading my breadmaker bread for freshly caught fish, Fish-a-Que nights, birdcalls - all different, beautiful and exotic.
These shells are sweet memories of that lovely month

Beautiful memories of the joy of collecting shells with the littlies too.
Treasures!

I still have some of those same shells...
they're my keepers of sweet memories!

🐚 Thank you for popping in... have a lovely week  🐚

Happy Paint Partying ~ and some randomness thrown in...

Hello!

It's currently pouring with rain here in our little corner of South East Gippsland... much the same around the country too.  In fact, the whole of December's rain is predicted to fall over the next few days.

The garden is soaking it up very happily after all the unexpected heat for this time of year.

I'm a day late, but here are my entries in Paint Party Friday.
Firstly, an acrylic, digital, real eucalyptus leaves Card that I created last week for loved ones, and which I've been adding to over the past few days:
[Attribution: The 3 Butterflies are digitally added from Clipart, all other images are mine]

I took this photo just a moment ago - it's soggy outside all right!

A little card I painted a while back for a new addition to a sweet family:

One very soaked Blackbird:

Another card I made for a loved one... a while back.  It needed a Christmassy touch seeing that we're now in December:
[Attribution: The Santa Hat digitally added from Clipart, all other images are mine]

The pond is nice and full - in fact, it will definitely overflow and have a lovely refresh of water:

My final painting is one I had done a few years ago - I love blue china - especially in the garden for some reason, so this is what I came up with! :

Thanks so kindly for your visit.
I'm sorry I'm not the most regular blogger or blog-visitor,
however,  I do love it when we catch up with each other.

Linking to Eva and Kristin's Paint Party Friday, where the happiest of artists gather... and everyone's welcome!
One last thought for this post:
