November catch-up

Hello!
Catching up again with a few pics which I'll add to throughout the month:

Update 18th November 2019...  "Roses" I've been fiddling with this one for ages and now it doesn't look anything like in this photo!  However, this is the way I like it.
Funny how things turn out sometimes.
Hope your November is nice - cheers!

Update: 14th November 2019... Took this for a reference photo as a guide to painting glass (I love how refractions distort plant stems in water).
Then I realised it made a pretty photo... the Dianthus continue to bloom their little hearts out and, oh, their perfume... divine!
Hope your week is going well!

Update: 7th November 2019...  Florals... lovely nasturtiums, some feeling their age but beautiful nonetheless!

The portulaca on the rockwall garden has been blooming its little heart out!  Such a simple, unassuming little plant ... it certainly takes advantage of its moment to shine.  A beautiful splosh of colour against the rocks:

Spring brings with it the ripening of loquats...a sweet and refreshing fruit.
The visiting Musk Parrots definitely agree :D):

I am painting now more than ever.  In fact, daily.  Its a huge part of my life and I love it.
Here's one I finished yesterday.  Flannel Flowers.  I also cut up some paper that I wipe leftover paint on (as you can see behind the easel) to do a bit of collage for the vase:
Flannel Flowers (native to Australia)

I was nearly going to add that these aren't anywhere near to being botanically correct... but... wait... of course they are ... in 'Susan-land'
(ahhh, with a brush in hand there is power to do whatever ;D))

A most stunning sunrise the other day... pinkly soft and gentle.  I stood on our verandah and ... well, just stood - in awe!

Thought I should mention it but I've turned Comment Moderation on.
Spammers are active, as I'm sure most of you are experiencing.
Someone trying to advertise something is one thing but when that spam turns to hateful racist comments, well ... not on my blog!  As my hubby said, they can crawl back under their rock!

  1. Your garden photos are so beautiful, Sue! It's so much fun looking into your world down-under while we are knee deep in leaves here in the US.
Good to hear that you're painting. And you are off to a great start! Not only are your flowers stunning, but the vase made me do a double take! It is just gorgeous!
And who would not be in awe of that sunrise? Wow!
    Great post, Sue!

    1. Hi Chris! Yes, I always find it amazing - the differing seasons.
Thank you, I'm really enjoying it while I've got my creative mojo happing... if I'm not painting, I'm composing the next one mentally.
I appreciate your thoughts on the vase too. Have always loved to recycle old card stock or paintings and when I looked at my brushings on the scrap paper I saw potential! Cheers now :D) xx

    1. It is isn't it, I can see it as I'm cooking, it started from just a little scrap of a cutting. Of course, I pamper it as its in a hot spot - I know they're tough but a little tlc never goes astray ;D)
That's lovely, Debbie, thankyou for your thoughts about my painting. Yes they are a kind of daisy - native to Australia and called Flannel Flowers (I quickly added the name in the caption to make it more seeable so thanks for mentioning it).
I'm an early bird... never used to be, but am up with the chooks (even before sometimes) but still I forget to look outside sometimes! Yes, I love your sunset photos you show.
Yes, the spam, I take it with a grain of salt but as I'm not on my blog often enough to monitor constantly, I'd hate for their rubbish to be sitting there for all to see. For good measure I thought I'd add what my hubby said about them too.
Lovely to catch up with you Debbie, thanks for the link to that video in the email... I really enjoyed it... watched it all the way through (saw you at the start :D)) in stages.
Have a great rest of the week xx

Too many hateful people about. Thank God for all the nice people we know who balance things out a bit. Have a great week, keep painting! Hugs, Valerie

  8. first off that banner photo - that bloom ....i love it as well as you flannel flowers! very pretty and so creative to use cut up paper to do the vase. I saw a spam comment on a few of mine and I'm getting close to have to do comment moderation - ..but I'm kind of lazy .. and i probably wouldn't want to take the time to guard against the spammers but if it gets too much i will. so far it's just very few. glad to see a new post.

    1. Hi Sandy... they are Matchstick Bromeliads and they are prolific around the area and, yes, so lovely - they shimmer and glow in the back part of the shady spots in the garden. I'll never get bored with seeing them!
I always have to fight my inclination to keep every little scrap of paper etc in my painting goodies lol so if I can 'legitimately' put it to use all the better! Thanks for that :D) xx

    2. ohhh back again and those parrots - whine - ..you have parrots that visit..now I'm really whining... you are so fortunate...and i love that first photo so much and your art!! And using every little scrap of paper is such a nice idea - ...I might try that some time. I have so many old sketches that I keep thinking I'll throw out but maybe I won't and try to incorporate them.....If I do you will be the first one I tell, lol.

    3. oh and thanks for the name Matchstick Bromeliads. I think I need to move and be upside down for awhile;)) just to experience what you see in your world.

      Delete
    4. oooh no, don't throw them out - using them in another piece of art kind of (in my mind) makes the current art even more part of you :D) You'll be surprised, once you see them in their re-used state, that even though you were on the verge of throwing them out for whatever reason... they take on a new kind of 'better'!
p.s. I'll tell a few parrots to fly over your way, you've lots of trees for them xx

Those bromeliads are still flowering, would you believe. They're bright little pops of colour, I love them, wish you could have some.

Ahhhh, no, we're not upside down - its you lot that are wrong side up ;D) cheers!! xx

  9. Hi Sue,
Love your photographs, those pink flowers are amazing what fabulous colour … and as for that pink sky it's perfect.
As you know I love pink and out shopping recently I saw this wonderful pink scarf!
I couldn't resist it! But in our cooler weather it's great to have around my neck :)

Just love your art and so pleased you are painting every day, it must be so relaxing.

    Have a great November.

    All the best Jan

    1. Hi Jenny and thanks for that.
The portulaca is mostly grown in seaside areas and used to help sand erosion, it grows in beautiful mat clumps, lots of different colours... pretty sure that's where I got my cutting ;D) xx

Its still going on here, quite nasty and from defective beings the ones that find their way to my blog. I delete several every few days - they must think I relish wading through multiple paragraphs of rambling musings of hate... um, no! Two words in and I label it as spam, report it and then delete it.

Thanks re my painting, its fun and relaxing to do. Hope you get back to yours soon.

  22. Your spring garden looks lovely, Sue. The portulaca are gorgeous - the blue bird is a great contrast color to it! (I have a similar bird in my garden) I really envy you for the parrots in your garden, even though I know that they can do a lot of damage.
I have had comment moderation since I started my blog for exactly those reasons. I also turned off "anonymous" comments since a lot of spam came in that way.

    1. Hi Debbie, and thank you :D) I always think back to a time quite a lot of years ago in another home we had and there was a bush of what they call the old fashioned roses - that beautiful deep, intoxicating perfume. Whenever they would flower I'd spend ages with my nose in the flowers. Its a real treat to find roses that not only look beautiful but also have that lovely smell isn't it.
Lilacs are another gorgeous scent too, and Freesias do it for me too. You enjoy your week too and thanks for popping back xx

i agree that winters slow down outside activities in colder part of lands specially
