Thanks Diane, I do enjoy this time of year for them. They spread their seed widely... a lot come up in our gravelled driveway so I spend a lot of time digging up the tiny seedlings and transplanting them elsewhere in the garden. Lol, one of the joys of retirement... plenty of time to do things like that :D) 💐xx
I guess it sounded like a lot of physical work "digging them up and transplanting..." Diane, but I go around with the hand trowel and they come up out of the ground easily and then its so easy to plant them elsewhere. Everything I do nowadays (esp after a particularly bad fall a few years' ago) is counted as exercise, so I'm mindful of how I bend, how heavy something is etc etc. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to have received extended physiotherapy at the hospital and have learnt how to look after myself and not overdo it. To move into a beautiful village such as yours (with gardens) wouldn't be possible for us, so we pace ourselves and have lots of nanna and papa-naps when needed lol! xx
They really are sweeties, and, yes, they do push themselves up don't they... up through rocks and goodness knows what else. I love their tenacity! Good wishes to you too Valerie 💐xx
Oh, how beautiful. A touch of spring and summer, as we're transitioning from fall to winter. You're very talented, and thank you for sharing your lovely paintings...I enjoy them immensely.
Hello Bica, yes, I like this time of year... not too cold and not too hot, just right. Not a great fan of the heat of summer, so I shall enjoy each of these days in particular. Thanks for your visit and happy thoughts💐xx
They are Debra... they love to surprise us don't they. Yes, you're right their faces are so sweet as well as their tiny-ness. All the best and thanks 💐xx
Hi Sue, thanks for coming to Marmelade Gypsy! It brought me here. Isn't Jenny's blog lovely? So is yours. In fact, it reminds me much of mine with art and photography, painting, creative things. And I see from your profile you are also a mystery fan! It's a joy to see your blooms -- we're in fall here with all the leaves down and only a few very hardy hold outs still in bloom. Do you have a follow link here? I'd love to follow you!
Thanks for your lovely visit and comments Jeanie. I do enjoy Jenny's blog, she gets right into the nitty gritty of unusual parts of the UK, plus when she travels is marvellous to read her reports. Glad you enjoyed the flowers, what on earth would we do without our flowers, leaves and trees! Its making we want to go out and pick a posy today! I must have lost the Follow button when trying to get to grips with this new blogger, shall re-install it, thanks for mentioning it. 💐xx
Oh yes, they have such sweet little faces and are so prolific. We used to have really bad-tempered looking pansies and I tried to sow their seed but they weren't having it, but others don't seem to cause any such trouble. I rather like the painted patches on your husband's trousers, very picturesque. I've given mine some batik patches.
Hi Sheila, its funny... I do know what you mean about bad tempered looking pansies! Most have sweet faces, fortunately ;D) Ooooh batik patches, very flash, lol, spoiling your man xx
Thanks Debbie, they love to show off their little colour variants don't they and, yes, so many shades of purple... makes them quite endearing. Good wishes to you xx
Hi Sandy, and thank you. It really is fun to think how we're in this world, at the same time, and yet are experiencing totally different seasons. That we can communicate like this is always amazing to me, when letters would take weeks just years ago. Stay well xx
I love violets, they are so pretty. It is winter here but I did notice a couple of buds on miniature pansy the other day, I don't know whether they will flower or not. Having said that I've got a large pink perennial poppy in flower which is unusual for this time of year.
Yes, there's many things to love about them aren't there Lin. Oh and there's a poppy blooming in our backyard too, but its usual over here. Sometimes plants just go their own way don't they - its lovely getting surprises like that. Cheers and thanks for your visit :D) xx
Your violets are so pretty Sue! I have grown them before, and always enjoy them. I didn't have any this year, but I plan to purchase some pansies soon, as they do well throughout the fall and cooler weather. So nice to see you. Hope you are doing well...have a wonderful week! Hugs :)
Hi there Suzanne, lovely to see you! Thanks, real happy you had pleasure seeing them. I'm still digging them up from our gravel driveway and transplanting them elsewhere, their roots are so dry I don't know how they survive... toughies all right. Enjoy yours when you get them! Yes, thanks all well here and I hope that's the same for you. Cheers now xx
How beautiful! And I have a post coming up soon about Johnny Jump-ups. I had never heard them called that before when I was looking up other names for the pansy. Your flowers are very cheering and uplifting Sue, thank you so much! I hope you had a great weekend and that your week will be too.
Hi Denise, I have always loved that name for these tiny flowers. They do literally seem to just "jump up" out of the ground... am currently picking them out of our gravel driveway which is dry and always in the sun but they keep growing, so I keep picking and re-allocating. Cheers! xx
The violets are so sweet and look like pretty faces peeking from the ground. Thank you for sharing, Sue. We have her very long grey period of year. I cant remember being ever. So it was a happy moment to see spring here. Thank you for visiting my blog and kind comments.' Wishing you healthy and happy time xx
you filled my heart with such a deep joy :) they are spectacular blooms ,their pappiness has surprised me and name they have is amusing to say :))) you capture them so beautifully :) how nice you have them right front of you within walls loved it many more blessings to you and yours!
Hello Baili and thank you, its nice to share what's happening in our gardens and these pretty little flowers delight me so much. Yes, I too love their name! :D) xx
i do it rarely though i saw my mother doing it amazingly often ,she would fill up the hole within clothes wonderfully ,i try it but not as perfect as was her's:(
Thank you Baili, it was a fun thing to do ... rather than a chore. I don't normally do mending like that but it was another thing to pass the time while we stay at home during the lockdown period. It was lovely to read your comment. Yes, I used to see my Mum doing it too - we have the same memories! My mum would mend socks :D)
Your little pansies or violas are so pretty. I love them for their variety of colours and patterns. Painting them must be a joy. I enjoy just growing them. Glad to hear from you.
Thanks Linda, yes, I think they're more inclined to be viola types but, well, they're all pretty aren't they! I too love their particular patterns and, yes, those sweet colours. Beaut of you to visit xx
Such dear little flowers - they remind me of little faces! Loved your creative mending, too! Such a good idea for gardening clothes. I'm always poking holes in mine. xx K
Hi Karen, glad you liked them (think I've seen them on your verandah pics ;D) too). Thanks, I thought that I'd brighten up those old work trousers... its just acrylic paint and is lasting quite well through washes xx
Sue I adore violets. They remind me of my dear grandma. It just wouldn't be a garden if I could not grow these little sweeties. Hope you are doing good and keeping safe. Hugs!
They are so sweet Debbie, and they give such delight each year... I so agree, our gardens would be the poorer without them. Yes, thanks all good here...those same lovely thoughts back to you xx
Ah Sue it made my heart lift to see these! Yesterday was the longest day of winter, so it's good to know that it'll start getting lighter and those little flowers are starting to stir in the ground ready for when their time comes to flower here! Happy Christmas to you.
hello Jenny, I'm really happy these little pretties did that for you. There's always the better times ahead. I love the thought of those little flowers as you described... and I look forward to seeing your photos of them. Have a lovely Christmas with your dear ones Jenny xx

DeleteHow does your back fair doing those kind of jobs. Mine gave in, one of the reasons that we moved into a village.
