First off, I'd like to show my entry in this week's Paint Party Friday.
I thought I'd try a simple cut and paste using a card I'd painted previously but wasn't quite happy with ... turns out it made great vase shapes lol!
A few abstracty flowers in inkpen, a dab of watercolour here and there and, my goodness, I was quite happy with the result and it kept me happily occupied for a while.
A card for a loved one that I'm happy to send.
I'm joining a very happy bunch of artists over at the Paint Party Friday blog and if you click on this PPF button below you'll be taken there to see such lovely creativity!
As we're expecting a hot day today... 40deg celcius plus (104F) - I decided to make sure that last night's watering hadn't dried out. Took a few snaps around the garden as I strolled:
What a surprise when I reached the Lilly Pilly tree! It was if it was snowing ... all the little tendrils were actually falling to the ground. The bees were going bananas!!
It was such an unusual sight and the first time in the ten years we've had this tree that I've actually noticed this action:
The bromeliad is flowering:
... and so is the grevillea:
Here's a shot of our Poppies as they were in November 2018:
I took a closeup of a spent poppy pod, there's always loveliness in the various stages of plants aren't there:
This morning I broke open one pod and look how many seeds came out!:
Well, I hope you each have (or have had) a really lovely day.
Cheerio for now and thanks so kindly for joining me here, Sue xx

Sue, your card is just lovely :)
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy seeing your photographs, but goodness me your temperatures are so HIGH!!!
I've not seen a Lilly Pilly tree before so I looked it up https://www.ozbreed.com.au/lilly-pilly/
That's why I love blogging you get to meet some lovely people and find out new things :)
Have a great 2019, my good wishes.
All the best Jan
💐🎨 Hi Jan and thank you!
DeleteI guess I sounded fairly blase about the high temperature today but ... nooooooo - I hate the really hot weather. Fortunately, where we live on this south east corner of Victoria, temps around 40 are not frequent. Usually around the 30's in Summer :D)
Our Lilly Pilly is the Acmena smithii - the standard variety which is prone to the Lilly Pilly Psyllid but I just cut it off or ignore it, it usually goes away (just a deformity of some leaves).
Yes, that's also why I blog :D) xx
Fabulous Sue! Clever clogs you to reuse that card to excellent effect. Can you eat those poppy seeds I wonder. We saw fields of white poppies in Tassie recently. Didn't realise what they were until later. Cheers.
ReplyDelete💐🎨 oh that's gorgeous Sandy, I haven't heard that expression for ages "clever clogs" :D) and, yes, I did feel a rather bit of a smartie with how it turned out but I cannot claim originality - my inspiration has been drawn from many creative bloggers from one part of the world to the other! Yay for blogging!!
Delete💐🎨 oops, got carried away there - re your question as to whether we can eat the poppy seeds, sadly no - I too had wondered that and posed the question to Mr Google, and our poppies which are Flanders Poppies are not suitable for eating of their seeds. Here's where I saw some good info on poppies
Deletehttps://www.thompson-morgan.com/how-to-grow-poppies-in-your-garden
If you do check it out, how about that Blackcurrant Fizz poppy that they show!!
Those white poppies you saw in Tassie must have looked so beautiful in the field.
Wow! It's fab all right. Thank you.
DeleteSue, these photos are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI love seeing different plants from other places...thank you!
Those Poppy Seeds are amazing!
And a big WOW! on your art stunningly beautiful!!!
Big Hugs ❤❤❤

DeletePoppies are lovely both as flowers and as pods of seeds! Your three shots of the poppies, pods, and seeds are awsome!
ReplyDeleteThe violet color in your card makes it very attractive!
The watering of the garden prior to the hot day- an act of great 'mercy' for the flowers!
💐🎨 Hello Duta, thank you - I was quite impressed at the beauty of the poppy pod up close and I'm really glad you enjoyed it too.
DeleteThe garden was very grateful for sure and it was lovely roaming around at night just after dark to water them. Today I'm making ice blocks to put in all the bird water bowls, they will need it.
Cheers and see you soon at yours :D)
Your card is adorable so creative in how it came together! Enjoyed your garden flowers too
ReplyDelete💐🎨 thanks very much Christine - it was really a fun and easy thing to do. Appreciate your visit :D)

ReplyDelete💐🎨 thanks very much Denise. That's lovely how you keep them. I was really touched right deep inside when I saw how my dear ones have them in a display cabinet and on a shelf!

ReplyDelete💐🎨 thanks always Valerie, I love that you enjoyed it all. Yes, all is finishing with the Lilly Pilly, all the tendrils have fallen off now... we're having such strong winds tonight so I think that will finish them for sure! Cheers :D)

ReplyDelete💐🎨 thanks very much Sandy - turns out it's fun being a hoarder of old work ;D) lol!!
DeleteYes, many seeds and they scatter from the pods quite freely when the wind blows... something tells me we're going to be poppy central next season.
Great to see your one a day artwork - you're inspiring. :D)

💐🎨 thanks very much Carol :D)
DeleteHi Sue. I love your art and it certainly reflects your garden. Now as I was scrolling down I came to the Lily Pily. This last summer Mike and I were in the woods of Oregon, USA. and we came across Lily Pilys. We had never seen this plant or it's blooms. I looked all over google to try and find out what they were. Now I know. It also makes sense because they are part of the Myrtle family and OR is famous for Myrtle trees here. Thanks for finally giving me my answer.
ReplyDelete💐🎨 Hi Nicole and, thanks for that.
DeleteWell now, the way things can work out - who'd have thought! So glad you finally got your answer; and thanks for telling me :D)
Muy lindas todas tus flores. Feliz fin de semana.
ReplyDeleteTranslation: "Very beautiful all your flowers. Happy weekend"
Delete💐🎨 thanks Teresa, and may your weekend be happy too... much appreciated :D)

Dimi...
💐🎨 I really appreciate your comment Dimi, thank you :D)
DeleteOh yes it was the hottest day we've experienced here in SE Gippsland too - it got to 43degC and was a stinker!! It, fortunately, started to cool through the night and we woke up to rain - so very pleasant at the moment too.
Had distraught birds on our verandah for the whole day too... I shall do a post on them soon.
Thanks for your kind wishes, lovely to see you :D)
Loved how you were able to give a previous artwork new life. The end result is awesome.

Glad you like what I do. It is fun to try out new things :)
💐🎨 hi Monica, thank you - it was enjoyable to do... using up something I'd put aside!
DeleteYes, those tendrils all fell just prior to our day of extreme heat - which set me wondering if the trees knew what was coming.. perhaps :D)
It is fun to try new things!
Pretty card I agree!
ReplyDelete'Lilly Billy' what a cute name. Here in Scandinavia I've never seen that beauty.
Have a good week!
