The bees are usually tucked away by this time, but a straggler decided to have a late snack.
It had lost a couple of limbs after a fierce windstorm a week ago... right after MD had given all the trees, in that section of the garden, a prune as luck would have it. Otherwise, I think a lot more damage would've been done.

MD Cleaning up the Lilly Pilly after the windstorm
Anyway, I'll cut the chat and post the photos:
Not a very clear photo, but I love how it shows all the squiggly things hanging off the blossoms!
During that night, we had a very welcome fall of rain... so, the next morning I was out again to take some more photos:
I love the little pods as well as the blossoms.
This one is my favourite photo ... can feel a painting coming on :D)
~ Thank you kindly for dropping by ~
~ May the rest of your week be happy and peaceful ~
Linking, a little bit late, to Riitta's Floral Bliss (sorry Riitta):
... and a bit early to Nick's Floral Friday Fotos:

What a pretty & interesting tree this Lilly Pilly is! I had never heard of it and had to google - no I know :)) The individual tiny flower is like a bunch of feathers - definitely inspiring painting. Thank you for linking, you are right on time. My link is constantly open, a new comes on Tuesday evenings...
ReplyDeleteHello Riitta, thank you for visiting and for hosting your Floral Bliss. I'm pretty sure this variety of Lilly Pilly is an Australian Native, but some varieties aren't so I could be wrong.
DeleteIt has a lot of stages - and, yes, the flowers are like feathers! The birds love it when the berries come :D)
What wonderful flowers on that tree, I have never see theme before. I suppose they just don't grow over here. Thanks for sharing the great photos and have a lovely month, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteHello Valerie, it's my pleasure to share the photos... I couldn't stop taking them, every aspect was so lovely :D) Cheers now!
DeleteI love the squiggly flowers. I don't know the tree but it's lovely
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol - appreciate your comment :D)
DeleteHow beautiful, Sue! And your header is stunning! Thank you so much for sharing, and I hope you are having a great week. :)
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Linda, lovely to see you :D)
DeleteGreat photos, Sue! The name of your tree made me smile. I wish we had them in the states..or maybe we do? I'll have to do a little digging to find out. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie! That name gets to me too - same as some bird names are really cute. Sending cheers :D)
DeleteHi Sue. The Lilly Pilly is truly a unique tree, and is beautiful with the raindrops. I have not heard of this tree before, guess I, too will have to see if they are around in the states. The blossoms seem to sparkle in the light. I agree, your favorite photo at the end is a great, and, will make a fabulous painting. It is good to see you, Sue. Have a fun day!
ReplyDeleteHello Suzanne - thanks and yes, as soon as I realised it'd rained overnight I just had to get more photos!! Lovely to catch up again and enjoy your day too :D)xx
DeleteThe wonderfully fluffy flowers. the scent of its flowers to strong? Greetings
ReplyDeleteNot a lot of scent on these Anne - very popular with the bees... they must be attracted by their sweet fluffy flowers :D) Happy day to you!
DeleteThanks most sincerely for the lovely comment you left on ~ My little old world ~ I heartily appreciate your words so, so much !
ReplyDeleteI'm going to follow your so lovely blog with joy
X Daniela
That's so nice, thank you Daniela :D)
Deletethis is a unique and oh so beautiful plant/flower!! it reminds me of the dandelion when it turns to the white puff (technical terms, i know) but perhaps you know what i mean!!
ReplyDeletesuch a cute name!!!
Thanks Debbie - yes, all the little squiggly things ( well, if you can get technical... so can I !!;D) ) do turn to puffiness. Gorgeous scarlet berries will be appearing soon. Some people make Lilly Pilly Jam from them, (they're sooo sour, so humunguous loads of sugar is needed) and it's quite nice. The parrots love to feed on them... they beaks come away all stained. Have a lovely evening, cheerio :D)xx
DeleteLovely. Interested to note there were no bees on your flowers, I'd have thought they'd be abuzzzzzz. The flowers and leaves are very similar to my Brazilian cherry.
ReplyDeleteHi Sandy, thank you :D)
DeleteYes, our bees had been very busy but I took the photo in the early evening and all but the straggler in the first pic was there. Ha ha, I think they staggered back to their hive with full nectar legs! We notice that the bees are late to come out of the hive and fairly early to return - it's to do with the temperature of the day.
I checked out your Brazilian Cherry and, yes, the lovely flowers were very alike... beautiful. I was amazed at the size of fruit it bears compared to the flowers. Our Lilly Pilly bears tiny fruit in comparison.
Lovely to have you visit and to share your thoughts. Cheerio now :D)
Lovely fluffy flowers! Raindrops on the leaves and flowers make a great photo. I like the freshness of the after rain in the garden.
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy, thankyou for your visit. Yes, the after rain smells and sights in the garden is always beautiful... I've been known to stay out in the rain to get some shots (in the past that is) Cheers!
Deletehow lovely to look at such delightful scenes through your kitchen window while doing chores in kitchen .it seemed always so fascinating to me when i saw such views in movies and dramas so when my husband was planning map for our this new home i asked him to place huge window in the front wall of kitchen .
ReplyDeleteI feel so grateful and blessed when i look through window to my front yard garden and plant pots!
it helps me to feel close to nature and relaxed.

Blessings and hugs to you my friend!
Hello Baili, it's lovely to have your thoughts, thank you.
DeleteI'm glad you also have a view from your kitchen window. Yes, you're right it is relaxing. It's something I've always appreciated throughout life. The dishes may take a while sometimes as I do a bit of gazing!! Cheers now until next time :D)
We have a row of huge lilly pillys at Burnbrae but I have not noticed them in flower yet and too high for me to get a shot even if I did. However I was walking up through Honour Gardens today and saw lots of fine filliaments on the ground and looked up to see it was Lilly Pillys in flower.
ReplyDeleteThey must be lovely old trees you have there Joan.
DeleteWhat a beautiful surprise to see them flowering at the Honour Gardens, it would have added to your visit. Cheerio and thanks for visiting :D)
Fabulous gardens Sue, lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob - we love our gardens :D)
DeleteDear Sue this is a beautiful tree. We do not have this species here. Love the name Lilly Pilly. Your weather looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie, thanks very much for popping over :D) Glad you enjoyed a bit of lilly pillying! Our weather is lovely at present, not too hot, not too cold. Hope you get some more nice days. Cheers!
DeleteThanks for coming by Sue - beautiful flowers on that tree. I have seen it here in California in red, but the white I love even more (am partial to white)! So, what is the official name of your Lilly Pilly tree?
ReplyDeleteNow, I am off to Riita's blog - didn't know she had a meme!
Lovely to visit your blog! Yes, the whites are lovely too aren't they.
DeleteThe official name, I think (because there are many varieties and we planted this one about 10 years ago) is Acmena Smithii Lilly Pilly. So glad you now know of Riita's meme! Cheers :D)
The last one is my favorite too! I need to see if this is growing on Maui.
ReplyDeleteNice to know Tom, thanks. Hope you do find they're there. Cheers now :D)
DeleteHello, Is Lilly Pilly the actual name? It is cute! I love the blooms. Pretty photos. Enjoy your day and the weekend ahead!
ReplyDeleteHi there Eileen, yes it is ... Acmena Smithii Lilly Pilly :D)
DeleteIt was nice of you to visit - thanks and have a great weekend, more of those fantastic sunrises to share with us :D) Bye
beautiful closeups of the flowers. Somehow I wonder how the bee can walk on them :)
ReplyDelete... thank you - I have trouble with white flowers (taking their photos I mean), so I was quite happy how these turned out.
DeleteThe bees are so clever aren't they! :D)
Lilly Pilly ... what a great name!
ReplyDeleteI love the photograph showing the squiggly things hanging off the blossoms!
Nice to get that rain ...
All the best Jan
It is Jan, I've always loved that name! Love your comments thank you :D)
DeleteDearest Sue; Wow, very sweet and adorable flower (looks like chrysanthemum♪)Lilly Pilly tree has, and your picture with rain drops is just fantastic♡♡♡ How wonderful to be able to enjoy lovely flower through window. Your husband is very helpful♪
ReplyDeleteI checked the Japanese name of the lovely tree and surprised to know we call it same way with English name :-)
We have 3 types of writing system; Kanji (Chinese Character). Hiragana. Katakana. It's written like this in Katakana-Character "リリーピリー". Normally‘loanwords’ are written in katakana. Tea is 'ティー' with the same pronunciation.
Haha, bear with me for my little excitement p;-)
Have a wonderful coming new week end, my friend.
Sending Lots of Love and Hugs from Japan to my Dear friend, xoxo Miyako*
Hello Miyako, thank you very much. They've all just about gone now - we had a lot of heat over the last few days and that was quite enough for them. Now we wait for the tiny buds to become those beautiful scarlet berries!
DeleteI was very interested to read that the English name is also used in Japan.
Also to know that there are three types of writing used ... so extensive! The characters are beautiful and I love how some of the characters look like pictures (as the one for Koi did that you included in a previous comment).
I really appreciate your lovely visits and to read your thoughts. Cheerio for now :D) xx
Pretty tree and I love your header!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Carol :D)
DeleteSuch pretty, delicate flowers. I can see where the inspiration for some of your work comes from. :)
ReplyDelete... aren't they lovely, thanks Vicki... yes, I fantasise at painting those delicate little flowers ;D)
