A few more bits of this n thats.... Vicki's new book, Renovations, Cows, Turnips, My Liquid Brekkies and other such things.

Author Vicki Tyley is a long-time blogfriend and, as you've seen on my sidebar, I'm a great fan of her gripping mystery and suspense stories. She's just released another book Fatal Liaison which is an absolute ripper.

Even though I'm not a writer, I can still imagine the sometimes long, hair-pulling hours that authors must put in to create a story. I appreciate that, and get a kick out of sharing the news of when I've had a good read.  I love to add my 2 cents' worth in my own particular style of review,  so here goes:

The lives of two strangers, Greg Jenkins and Megan Brighton, become inextricably entangled when they each sign up for a dinner dating agency. Greg's reason for joining has nothing to do with looking for love.  His recently divorced sister Sam has disappeared and Greg is convinced that Dinner for Twelve, or at least one of its clients, may be responsible.  Neither is Megan looking for love....

Vicki has unleashed another compelling story, chock-a-block full of just the right mix of ingredients that we've come to expect from her stylish hand.
A simmering mystery that erupts into highly charged emotions combining with dramatic and sometimes confronting encounters, all cleverly  woven with an intriguing psychological twist.
Vicki's editing is seamless. Her words flow with an ease that is pure delight to read.
Her main characters, Greg and Megan,  have heart and warmth.  I was nail-bitingly, lip-chewingly, carried along not wanting to leave their sides all throughout their harrowing journey.
My Rating:  Forget the "X" Factor... There's now the "Tyley" Factor

Our Renovations

We've decided to finish the renovations that we started some
5 years' ago.  Had a few years' break in between.
Here's MD making a start on getting the wallpaper off.
We gave ourselves a weekend break... oh, and Monday as well.
We're off shopping today and tomorrow.... um ;-)

We're taking a tea break from the renovations here.
It's a tough job all right .... but someones got to do it!!

Here is our regular King Parrot visitor to our verandah.
He's so friendly and gentle.

He sometimes allows a female to join him on the rail, but really prefers to have us to himself.
We had to stop feeding him there because he would jump on to the cane chair and
look into the lounge at us, requesting food.  If we didn't come out straight away, he'd
start chewing on the chair!
He's quite used to the fact now, that he doesn't get food from us at the verandah
anymore, but still likes to drop in to say hello.

Cows and turnips

Snapped this on our way through to check on Mumma Swan at Lakes Entrance.
The cows were happily chomping on the turnips but ran like scaredy cats when I
walked over to photograph them.

My liquid brekkies

I mentioned my liquid brekkies last year in a post.  I still occasionally have them.
I vary the ingredients quite a bit.  This one has a raw egg, sesame seeds, crushed linseeds,  soy milk,
banana, honey and a good few shakes of cinnamon.

Oh Yum.... truly!

We loved this one ... it must be such a hard day at 'The Office'

A beautiful sight

Finally, I shall end with the rainbow we saw on our way back from Lakes.
Just lovely!  I have always admired Linda's (Life on a Colorado Farm) rainbows and now I've been able to capture my own!

Thank you for rolling down the page with me (ha ha, that sounds a bit weird.... but you know what I mean)
I think I'll have a little break from posting  (EXCEPT of course, for a Mumma Swan Update)  while I catch up on my visits to everyones' blogs and read the posts I've missed. There are so many delightful blogspots to visit, I don't seem to get around to as many,  as much as I'd like to.   So that's what I shall be doing for the next little while.

Froggie has been making a few noises, so perhaps he may hop in a bit later on ;-)

Cheerio for now and keep well and safe everyone!

  5. Thank you, Susan, for such an awesome review. I'm thrilled to bits you enjoy my writing. It's what makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Talking about hard work, sitting out on the deck with a cuppa must be such hard yakka. ;)

I just love your resident King Parrots. Not sure if I love the raw egg in in your brekkie shake, though. :/

I wouldn't mind an "office" on the water.

I hope there's a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow. ;)

    Thanks again for the review...

    Cheers
    Vicki

  6. Susan, such an adventurous gal you are! Loved the swan's song, but those parrots are just divine-oooh ahhh :-)
Vicki's latest, Fatal Liaison kept me jumping from suspect to suspect and before the ending, I had them each "guilty as charged." lol.
Rainbows are nature's mirrors, reflecting beautiful souls. Thank you for sharing and OMG, I loved the instant breakfast shake...I too put an egg in mine, as well as a tip of vanilla.
    Happy harvesting,
    Cherri

  7. Hey Susan, I too have to do some renovations in the painting line the next couple of weeks! I love the parrots too.

I tried to find a Vickie Tyley mystery at the library but had no luck. I'm not sure if she isn't popular here or if the library just didn't have any of her books. I do love a good mystery.

Interesting about the cattle. People here plant turnips for the deer.

  8. TexWisGirl, thank you... we love our King Parrots. From the first day we moved into our cottage they were there to greet us :D)
Deb, thanks, there's a lot of posts I want to read on everyone's blogs, so I'll spend my internet time just doing that for a while :D)
Angela, ha ha, yes the days are gone where we'd get in and do everything at breakneck speed! Just a couple of hours every few days and we'll get there. Kinder on backs and bones :D)
Debbie, yes, our wallpaper was put on with extra special strength glue I think! We rely so much on the steamer we bought years ago. It works a treat and everything peels off. Breaks and gazing at birds tops it as an activity definitely ;-)
Hi Vicki... you're welcome - you provide a lot of entertainment to your lovers of mystery!
Ha ha, I admit the raw egg sounds yuk, but when it's all mixed up you wouldn't know it was in the drink. My Mum used to make us up a version when we were kids, if we were ill (we didn't know egg was in it though!). I've given them to our kids and grandkids too - (all oblivious to the egg content too ;-))
Cherri, hi there - glad you love our parrots. They are cuties :D) Yes, I can never guess who's guilty in Vicki's books ... neither can I in yours either!! That's the beauty of good mysteries. Ah, another eggie girl - quick and easy protein ;-)... I think Mum used to put vanilla in as well actually :D)
Mary, oh dear, you're into the dreaded renos too. Still, it's really satisfactory when they're done isn't it :D) I'm not sure about libraries re: Vicki. I'll pass your query on to her via email. I mainly know about her eBooks. They can be read even if you don't have an eReader, they can be downloaded as a PDF or text file and read from the computer. At the moment she's offering her book at 0.99cents until end of August. Details are on her site {click the Fatal Liaison image on the post and that will get you there}. Cheers for now!

  9. You have a lovely deck and beautiful visitors. It must be hard to leave it and get back to work. How is Mrs Swan?

  10. Superb parrot Susan, you are very fortunate having such a gorgeous "little friend" visiting you...as for the rainbow, you never get tired of those, they are so beautiful and full of happy symbolism...great image!

  11. Hi Mary: Thanks for your interest in my books. I’ve just emailed you, but Susan suggested I also post here in case anyone else was interested.

Alas, for now, you won’t find my books at your library. My mysteries are popular in Amazon Kindle (Thin Blood was named an Amazon 2010 customer favorite), but currently, they’re only available in Kindle and other ebook formats. I’d be more than happy to email readers of Susan’s blog copies of any of my books in the ebook format of their choice (Kindle for PC is free to download and, whilst not quite as good as reading on a Kindle or other ereader device, is user-friendly).

Alternatively, I have set up print-on-demand for “beta readers” (don’t want to lose the first print rights) for Thin Blood, Sleight Malice, and Brittle Shadows (still need to do Fatal Liaison). The price is at cost – I don’t earn anything, but nor am I out of pocket.

Blurbs and sample chapters for each book are available on my website

    Cheers
    Vicki

P.S. Love the new grasshopper banner, Susan. :)

  12. Hi Diane, many thanks... we're just seeing our desk from the inside looking out today - its BUCKETING down with rain (good for the garden anyway!). Haven't been back to see Mumma Swan - but will soon and I'll definitely keep posting about her and any developments :D)
Thankyou DeeBee, yes, we are very fortunate :D). Seeing a rainbow is always a lovely experience isn't it - just something all right.
WOW....Vicki!!! Thank You very much for your generous offer to my blog readers... I hope they take you up on it, mystery/thriller readers are in for a treat if they do *Huge Grin* - [[WARNING]]: make a few meals in advance though... you won't want to stop reading till the end :D)

  16. Linda, thank you very much. I was thrilled to get a rainbow shot - all the different kinds you see over in your neck of the woods are fabulous.
Thank you Dmarie, it's fun putting them all together :d) Glad you enjoy them.
Hi Laura, I love it too when they lift their wing or show their undertail - beautiful patterns and markings. I like the drink as an alternative to chomping through cereal sometimes :D)

  17. Hi Vicki, I didn't get said e-mail, but I have the latest booking waiting to download on my Kindle. I am still curious why my public library won't have any copies.

  18. oops, I just realized I would have to look for the e-book at my library.

  19. Hi Mary: I emailed you at the address on your profile. Hope it didn't end up in your spam folder. Just resent it with Thin Blood and Fatal Liaison attached. Fingers crossed it doesn't get lost along the way. :)

  20. Vicki, that's so nice what you've done for Mary - thank you very much. It's typical of your kind nature.
Enjoy the success of the fruits of your hard work in your latest book :D)

  21. You keep on raising the bar for these This 'n That posts of yours! Each time, I think to myself, "She's done this so well, she can't possibly do it again!" and yet, each time, you grab my interest just as surely as the last and all of those before!

I had such a good chuckle at the way you two do rennovations...it's quite obvious why, though, with all those leisurely coffee breaks and the delightful feathered guests that join you. I wouldn't get a thing done, either :)

  22. Hi Desiree, aww thank you. I have fun, to say the least!! It keeps me off the streets too ;-)
Oh yes, we approach our renos with the utmost enthusiasm.... we love it so much that's why we draw them out - ha ha. MD has recently plastered up a hole in the wall from the door knob (made by prev owners). Not a lot to do while its drying - definitely have to give it a week or so ;-)
