Winter Wednesday - Saving the Bronzewing Pigeon

Am joining in Hazel Dene's series about the Joys of Winter.  Once you've read my post, pop over to her place - it's fun :D)

My joy of winter came about the other day.

It was too chilly to be outside, so I took photos through a window, and our resident  Bronzewing Pigeon was posing beautifully....

[As always, click images to enlarge]

... then, I saw this scenario unfold (one of the neighbourhood cats)

I quickly snapped the photo, then banged on the window, but the pigeon was frozen with fright.

Fortunately, MD made even more noise and pigeon flew off to safety.

If not for the chilly winter weather, we wouldn't have noticed.

  5. Stitchin'time certainly has the best solution! Thankfully you were alert to what was about to transpire and managed to nip it in the bud :) What a BEAUTIFUL pigeon!

It's very cold here today, too. Blustery, overcast and with stormy conditions forecast. Winter is definitely with us...we had a perfect day, yesterday...warm, calm...it felt like the start of spring ;)

Stay snug. I'm sitting in front of the fire :) Love it!!!

    Big hug,
    Des xoxo

  6. Oh no! Phew! Thank goodness for a noisy MD. As much as I like cats, they're mortal enemies of our wildlife.

That would explain why you don't have a family of wrens. Too dangerous for the tiny birds.

Love the colours in the bronzewing's wings.

  7. I thought our neighbours cats were house cats until I saw one in the garden the other day ... explains the lack of little birds in our garden since they moved in .. I like cats but birds and cats don't mix.

  8. Those are pretty colours on the bronze wing, you captured them well, thought we were going to see some feathers fly there for a moment lol!

  9. THAT's a beautiful pigeon!!
thankfully...MD didn't do the 'silent crawl across the ground on tummy' act...and the pigeon's little feathered butt was spared! ha!

  10. I know that feeling! Sometimes when I feed the birds I think I'm setting them up for the neighbors dastardly cat!!

The pigeon photo was very nice, almost as if you planned those color co ordinated pebbles.

  15. Great shots thru the window. A healthy looking pidgeon...nice meal for the cat. I don't think they really like to eat birds, it's just the sport. So glad you and MD dubbed kitty "spoiled sport".
