there's a bear in there

~ introducing DG Bear. He carries out a most important job in our home - we always know where the mobile phone is!
DG was born out of my Husband's very old, partly "threadbear", dressing gown when it was replaced with a newer, warmer model.
He looks a little startled in this pic, I think the camera flash gave him a bit of a shock.

~ this is Theodore.  I made him for my Sister and he's been with her for many years.  She sent this recent pic to show how he's doing. As you can see, he's a bit worn and his stitches are showing but he's a tough old bear.  Theodore still enjoys reading the paper every morning, however, he thinks his eyes aren't the best sometimes. My Sister just re-positions the glasses on his face and then he can see again.

~ I taught myself to make bears from various library books and had fun putting my "take" on the results.  It was during a fairly isolated time for us, far away from our family. My Husband was working and I needed something to do in between temping assignments. My bears made great presents for family and friends. They all seem to still hold pride of place in their various adoptive homes!

  4. Hello and Welcome Catherine.
Glad you liked the bears. It's amazing how just a couple of buttons can bring a face to "life".
Yes, we love our retirement ... there's always something interesting to do. The honey's certainly a bonus :D

  5. Susan! I just found your bears and I'm in love. Scratch the doll. I want to make a bear. I'm nearly ready to begin too. I've almost finished my Xmas gifts and I would like to give my neices a bear come spring. FYI that is in April here.

    I'm excited!

  6. Hi Mary :D

LOL - thank you kindly! I must admit, I've got a real soft spot for bears and have done for years.

I've just been visiting Bumblevee's site and am enjoying working my way through it. She gives a lot of little hints that will help when making bears. Her blog address is http://bumblebearies.blogspot.com
She also has a lot of bear makers' links in her sidebar which I'm keen to check out. Bit tired at the moment though, have been sitting up far too long - time for some shut eye.

Reading through her posts will fire your enthusiasm for making bears even more I'm sure, it has mine!!

Cheerio for now and look forward to discussing your future bearmaking :)
