Mumma Swan Update (Part 1)... and the duck who thought he was a swan

We first saw Mumma Swan on 15th July sitting on her nest. Here is the link to my original post Mumma Swan on her nest Lakes Entrance. We paid her a follow-up visit a week after that and she was still there, sitting patiently in the pouring rain (forgot my camera).

Yesterday, MD asked if I'd like to go for a drive to check on her again ... my answer was obvious, so we 'swanned' off to Lakes Entrance.

A gorgeous day, and here she is, sleeping the blissful sleep of an expectant Mum:

Uh oh, I've disturbed her

... but I'm not the only visitor it seems

... and so they both settled back down for a snooze.

I was having a yarn with a local lady who said that this duck is a regular visitor who sits with Mumma Swan and mimics her behaviour.  The locals all  reckon that the duck is convinced he's a swan.

The incubation of Black Swan eggs begin after the last egg has been laid and lasts from 35 to 40 days. The lady I spoke to wasn't sure when Mumma started sitting.  As of yesterday, it was 21 days to our knowledge that she's been on the nest.  We'll be going back to check some more.

Here's a link to more information on the Black Swan

There's a Part 2 to this post.... Mumma has another visitor.

Bits of this n thats... here n there... all over the place.

We were delighted recently to receive this photo from Granddaughter N, showing the beautiful bag she'd sewn during her recent school holidays.
Well done darling,  it's so pretty!

So that's where they went!

My Lettuce Barrow

I could never decide where to plant the lettuce, so MD drilled some holes in my
wheelbarrow and set it up as a mobile planter.

Does this happen in your house?

The last of something is always left.....

Busy Bees

Not marvellous shots, but she wouldn't stay still long enough!

My frugal bit...

I divide one bottle of concentrated washing-up detergent into 3 and top each one up with vinegar.
For a thicker consistency, just make up two bottles.
Works well - no problems with a greasy wash.

Finally, I spied the moon on a beautiful day.

~ Have a happy and safe weekend ~
